Broughton Sanctuary, Yorkshire, the only accredited Healing Hotel in the UK

Broughton Sanctuary
Avalon wellbeing

Broughton Sanctuary in Yorkshire, has met the exacting standards of Healing Hotels of the World, earning recognition as the only accredited Healing Hotel in the UK. This accolade celebrates Broughton Sanctuary’s dedication to the healing power of wellbeing through activities and retreats, innovative rewilding initiatives, and sustainability.

Why Broughton Sanctuary?

Broughton Sanctuary, situated within 3,000 acres of beautiful landscape, provides the perfect setting for transformative experiences that heal body, mind and spirit.

Anne Biging, Founder of Healing Hotels of the World, remarked, “The moment I entered the Sanctuary, I felt a peaceful inner contentment – a sense of having arrived in a place that vibrates with goodness, care, and a joyful welcome.”

The Sanctuary hosts an ever-changing selection of weekly residential retreats and self-guided programmes, enabling visitors to personalise their healing journey. Outdoor activities such as meditation labyrinths, moon bathing, cold water immersion, forest bathing, mountain biking and walking trails as well as woodland saunas, a hot tub, and sweat lodge provide immersive experiences in England’s most transformative and inspiring nature recovery project.

Avalon Wellbeing Centre is a state-of-the-art hub for healing therapies and practices that returns guests to their source and helps them find their reason for being. It offers an array of diverse activities, from a well-equipped personal training studio and pool suite to many forms of yoga, full moon sound bathing, meditation and bodywork, nature journaling, and women’s circles. An ambitious programme of retreats helps participants tackle the big stuff, including healing their past, living on their terms, and envisioning their future.

Nature Recovery: One of England’s Most Ambitious Rewilding Projects

The Healing Hotels of the World accreditation also recognises Broughton Sanctuary for being at the forefront of one of England’s most ambitious rewilding projects. Over the past three years, the Sanctuary has planted 350,000 native broadleaf trees, created expansive new woodlands and restored diverse natural habitats. These efforts have significantly boosted local biodiversity, making the Sanctuary a haven for wildlife and a model of environmental stewardship.

Guests are invited to partake in nature recovery projects, including foraging for wild food and experiencing the thrill of wild swimming. This hands-on involvement deepens the connection between visitors and the natural world, nurturing a deep sense of environmental responsibility alongside personal rejuvenation.

Healing Hotels of the World also commended Broughton Sanctuary for its sustainable on-site practices, including ethical food sourcing and composting, supporting local community organisations, and the site-wide ban on animal-tested products and single-use plastic bedroom amenities.
